Frederick Tiki Kivell
born 25 February 1916 at 9 Fitzherbert Street Petone. His mother Grace
registered the birth on 12 April 1916. Ernest his father was described
as a Brewer on the birth entry. As he worked for the Tiki Brewery
in Taihape one must assume that my grandmother remained in Petone
most or all of that time. |
Tiki as he was always known, worked for many years with
NZ Railways and during that time occupied a railway house in which
ever area he was stationed. He was for a time at Lepperton near Waitara
and I recall staying with him and his family and going on the train
to Waitara. He later shifted near to Green Lane Auckland still working
for NZR. Later, year unknown he quit the railways and shifted to Hawera
where he managed the Working Man's Club for a few years before purchasing
a section with an old house on it. The house was removed and two new
units built, one that he and Aunty Doris occupied and the other one
was sold. He died in December of 1981 aged 65. Uncle Tiki and Aunty
Doris had three daughters and one son. Gary their only son died in
September 1993. Several years earlier he had become ill with leukaemia.
Shortly before his death he was in remission but unfortunately he
stepped on a nail and his foot became infected. Because of his low
resistance he died of pneumonia. |
